The History & Ethics Stations, which command almost 1/3 of the total marks in PACES, are often overlooked by candidates who instead have tended to concentrate on clinical examination technique rather than their communication skills.
With this in mind, we have a separate one day course that specifically focuses on this aspect of PACES. The particular strength of this course will be the ample opportunity to be examined by course tutors under examination conditions in small groups. You will receive specific feedback throughout the day on your performance using PACES mark sheets such that we can focus on weak points that you may have. We use both actual patients and actors in the simulations.
Key Points:
small 1:4 ratio of tutor to candidates
role-play scenarios just like the PACES examination
continuous feedback throughout the day
what the examiners are looking for & how to score well in these stations
-
all tutors have extensive experience teaching PACES for the MRCP
Furthermore, we shall focus on areas that candidates particularly find difficult:
Confidentiality
Informed consent
Legal issues e.g. DVLA guidelines for fitness-to-drive
How to give information to patients
Breaking bad news
-
Euthanasia, DNR orders, withdrawing/withholding treatments
Course fee: £299 24 January 2009 (Sat)
The registration fee includes lunch, refreshments and VAT.
